Depending on how much prior knowledge your child already has, we will work on different things. But all children should understand the basics of piano theory and the structure of the keyboard. Individual goals are very important and will shape what we do during lessons. IMMusic teaches children about the proper piano technique. I believe that it is important to know and practice proper technique because it gives your child the tools to play more difficult songs later.
Many of our students have different focuses when they come to their lesson. We can help your child with whatever their goals are, such as composing, sight reading, or playing their favorite songs!
Both private lessons and group lessons are options at IMMusic. These group lessons are with children of a similar age and/or skill level. I believe it is important to introduce children to other pianists because they can make new friends and help each other as they learn a new instrument.
Our program works to expand your child's understanding of piano theory and sight reading. Whether your child is new to piano or has been with IMMusic for a few years, we consistently review the basics as well as learning new techniques to play piano. We encourage our older students start to play more complicated songs and to compose their own pieces!
All students have different personal goals, like composing their own songs, diving deeper into music theory, or sight reading.
Students have the opportunity to join private lessons and group lessons. We have one group class with all of the teen pianists, rather than splitting them by age like we do with the younger students. It allows the experienced players to give tips to newer pianists.
